Horace Heidt announces 50th Annual Labor Day Luau

August 3, 2017

Sherman Oaks, CA – Horace Heidt has announced his 50th Annual Labor Day Luau, to be held at the Horace Heidt Estates (14155 W Magnolia Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA, 91423), on Saturday, August 26th 2017. The evening starts at 6:30pm, and includes refreshments, dinner, and a Polynesian show & fire dance. Tickets are $50 per person; reservations may be made by calling Doreen at .

A long-time tradition at Horace Heidt Estates, the Luau will include dinner, dancing, music, and entertainment. The “Hawaiian Experience” Polynesian dance troupe will take guests on a “journey through the islands”, with dances and music from Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand, and more. Also, traditional Hawaiian roasted pig will be served. Additional entertainment includes featured singer Kae Butterfield, and pianist Karen Hammack, a native Californian who has toured the world with various performing groups, including Grammy-nominated world music artist Perla Batalla. Karen is also a member of trumpeter Bobby Rodriguez’ Jazz Adventure which brings the wonderful history of jazz to young students all over Southern California. The evening will also include a special tribute to Greg Degler, a well-known and accomplished saxophonist who unfortunately passed before his time, earlier this year.

In addition to festivities, the Luau traditionally honors individuals from the local community. This year’s honoree is Florine Goodman, who will be receiving the Sylvi Award in recognition of her years of dedication to The United Chambers of Commerce as Recording Secretary, amongst other titles, and to community organizations across the San Fernando Valley. The Sylvi award is named after long-time Horace Heidt Estates employee Sylvia Elias for many years of outstanding contributions and humanitarian efforts to better our entire city.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Big Bands Foundation. For more information, or to make a reservation, contact Doreen at . Residents of The Horace Heidt Estates receive a $5 discount on admission.
