Los Angeles, CA – Big Surf Communications (“Big Surf”) announces it is now accepting new clients after successfully demonstrating its proprietary coaching service at the UCLA Anderson School of Management’s 2017 Business Creation Option thesis program (“BCO”) for start-up businesses. Big Surf guided two of the 16 teams through accelerated, collaborative decisions that not only systematically reduced the risk of their ventures, but also improved reported overall team chemistry and communication. Both teams coached by Big Surf finished in the top four, with one finishing in first place.
Jill Evans and Mark Tennenbaum from Big Surf initially approached, and were subsequently engaged by, the BCO to coach Officebites, Inc. and Bambula Baby Goods. Like every BCO team, each had to qualify into this prestigious program where many participants launch their ventures into the real world. Over the 6 weekly, 60 to 120 minute, coaching sessions, Big Surf tested its core proposition: Collaborative environments tend to prompt uninhibited contributions, which move work teams faster and further than non-coached work teams.
Using their proprietary group dynamics and improvisational-skills based coaching process, Big Surf focused on each team’s critical path while unleashing ideas and observations to resolve the uncertainties and roadblocks each group faced. At the end of the Big Surf program, Officebites and Bambula team members reported they had moved far further and faster through their process than they had initially thought possible: Officebites launched its first beta test while Bambula was ready to commission product prototypes. In light of that quick success, Big Surf now looks to help a portfolio of start-ups at an accelerator or incubator program in Southern California.
Big Surf Communications was co-founded by Jill Evans, who has more than 20 years of deep business experience, with 13 of those years spent working in the Fortune 500 primarily in Global Sales and Operations; and by Mark Tennenbaum (co-founder of FrontBridge Technologies, a cloud computing pioneer acquired by Microsoft), who has more than 30 years experience in finance, strategy and entrepreneurship and has worked with other start-up companies over the last 20 years. Mark and Jill’s diverse business experience, along with their years of improvisational training/performing and mindfulness practice, give their clients the edge they need to move their businesses forward more quickly and with lower risk.
